AI agents now come with their own identities and spending meters: what Google’s Gemini agent means for small businesses
On October 8, 2026, Google Cloud announced the Gemini agent, which it describes as a single, universal agent for work. Instead of only answering questions, it can be given an objective, plan the steps, use connected business systems and keep working on tasks that run for hours or days. Google also described “coworker agents” that get their own Workspace account, email address, calendar and Drive.
Why it matters: when software acts on its own, two questions become as important as what it can do — what it is allowed to touch, and how much it can spend.
CG Networks analysis
Many small and midsize businesses still use AI as a chat assistant: someone asks, reads the answer and decides what to do. Agents change that model. An agent with access to a shared inbox, a Drive full of client files or an accounting connector can act before anyone reviews the output. For a medical office, law firm, logistics company or property manager in South Florida, that raises practical questions about client confidentiality, who approved an action, and what shows up in an audit. The billing shift matters…
Azure gateway outage: what a nearly six-hour cloud connectivity incident teaches small businesses
Between 20:30 UTC on September 30 and 02:15 UTC on October 1, 2026 (4:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. Eastern), Microsoft says a subset of Azure customers in multiple regions experienced degraded or interrupted network connectivity on gateway services: Azure VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute Gateway, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway and Web Application Firewall, and Azure VMware Solution.
Why it matters: the services affected are the ones that connect offices, remote staff and websites to cloud resources, so when they falter the cloud servers themselves can be healthy and still out of reach.
CG Networks analysis
Plenty of small and midsize businesses in South Florida now run line-of-business apps, file servers or accounting systems in Azure and reach them over a site-to-site VPN or a VPN client. That is a sensible design, but it adds a dependency that is easy to forget: the gateway. If staff can’t connect, the business experiences it as “the server is down,” even when the virtual machine is running fine. This incident also landed in the late afternoon and evening Eastern time, when many offices are closing out the day,…
MikroTik router flaw added to CISA’s exploited list: why exposed router management is a business risk
On September 25, 2026, CISA added CVE-2026-67279, a flaw in the SSH server of MikroTik RouterOS, to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog based on evidence of active exploitation. According to CERT Polska, which researched it, attackers chain it with a second RouterOS bug to get full administrative control of a router without a password or SSH key. MikroTik published fixed versions on September 3.
Why it matters: A router whose management interface can be reached from the internet can be taken over outright, so update RouterOS and close remote management access now.
CG Networks analysis
Routers are often installed once and then forgotten. In many small offices, retail locations and shared buildings, the person who set up the router, whether a previous IT contractor, a property manager or the internet provider, isn’t the person responsible for it today. Remote management may have been opened years ago so someone could fix problems without driving to the site, and nobody closed it afterward. That is exactly the setup this campaign targets. An attacker who controls your router can watch or redirect…
Microsoft disrupts AI-enabled cybercrime platform EvilTokens
Microsoft says the operation used AI to analyze compromised inboxes, identify trusted payment relationships, and help criminals prepare fraud. Microsoft linked it to more than 12,000 compromised inboxes across 10,000+ organizations.
Why it matters: Protect email with MFA, monitoring, and verification procedures for payment or banking changes.
CG Networks analysis
The EvilTokens story is a reminder that an inbox is not just a place where messages arrive. It is a doorway into payment workflows, supplier relationships, password resets and trusted conversations. When attackers gain access to email, even an ordinary-looking request can carry the credibility of a real business relationship. For a Miami-area business, the practical risk is operational: a fraudulent…
OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Sol and Luna
OpenAI launched faster, lower-cost GPT-6 models designed to make advanced automation and professional workflows more affordable at scale.
Why it matters: Smaller businesses can automate more work economically, but should still define permissions, approved data, and human review.
CG Networks analysis
OpenAI’s launch of GPT-6 Sol and Luna points to a continuing shift: businesses may be able to use more capable AI in a wider range of routine work as costs and performance options change. A model release is not, by itself, a reason to connect an AI system to company mail, customer records, or financial tools. The business value depends on the task, the data, the workflow and the controls around it. For a…
Google launches Gemini 3.8 Live models for voice agents
Google introduced new live-dialogue models with improved reasoning, interruption handling, visual grounding, and enterprise-focused voice-agent capabilities.
Why it matters: Customer-service and phone workflows are becoming more natural, but escalation rules and approved knowledge remain essential.
CG Networks analysis
Google’s Gemini 3.8 Live announcement describes voice-oriented models built for real-time dialogue, including more natural turn-taking and interruption handling. For organizations considering a voice agent, those interaction improvements may make automated calls feel less rigid—but conversational quality is only one part of a production-ready service. A customer calling a Miami business still needs correct…
AWS expands AI asset inventory into Microsoft Azure
AWS Security Hub AI Inventory can now discover self-hosted AI models, endpoints, and agents running on Azure virtual machines and correlate them with security findings.
Why it matters: Multi-cloud organizations need visibility into where AI runs, which data it touches, and whether the underlying infrastructure is exposed.
CG Networks analysis
AWS says its Security Hub AI Inventory can extend visibility to AI models, endpoints and agents hosted on Microsoft Azure virtual machines. The announcement reflects a broader operational challenge: AI components can run across cloud boundaries, while security teams may already be working from separate inventories and alerting systems. For a South Florida organization using more than one cloud, the useful…
Microsoft emphasizes identity, permissions, and data controls for AI adoption
Microsoft says governed identities, least privilege, protected data, and visibility into AI systems are foundational as organizations adopt agents and autonomous workflows.
Why it matters: Good AI security starts with the same basics that protect Microsoft 365, cloud applications, and business data.
CG Networks analysis
Microsoft’s security guidance for AI adoption emphasizes core controls such as identities, permissions, data protection and visibility. Those fundamentals are not new, but AI agents make them more consequential: a tool that can read files, call services or take actions inherits the reach of the credentials and integrations granted to it. For a Miami business, the key governance question is “What is this…
ESET warns AI adoption is expanding the SMB attack surface
ESET reports that AI agents create new connections and dependencies while many SMBs still lack formal AI policies; phishing and known-vulnerability exploitation remain major breach causes.
Why it matters: Adopt AI with an inventory, acceptable-use policy, access boundaries, patching, and monitored integrations.
CG Networks analysis
ESET’s SMB-focused report highlights a tension familiar to smaller organizations: AI tools and agents can add connections and dependencies, while established issues such as phishing and known vulnerabilities remain relevant. Adopting more technology without a basic inventory can make it harder to know what is approved, who owns it, and how it is protected. For a Miami small business, an AI policy need not…
